Hi Mac Members,
I really enjoyed the Awards Ceremony we held in May. The student art show that was on display at Gallery 53 made a perfect setting, and encouraged everyone to linger a bit and mingle. Thank you very much to John Kenney and his committee for the hard work they put into determining the award recipients and organizing the ceremony. Also a big thanks to S.W.E.E.T. Potato Society for providing such abundant food!
You may have noticed that we still have the concert information from April on the main page of our website, or possibly had some difficulty entering event information on our website. Please bear with us. We’re in the process of updating our website in order to support an on line artist directory. We’re also adding some behind the scenes administrative functions that will help us collect and store data that will help us to better understand what you, our community members, need and want from us.
We were very happy to have several new faces at our meeting this month. Having created and reviewed our goals for this year helped us to articulate what kind of help we’d need to reach those goals.
Thanks to the power of the web, and a site called www.volunteermatch.org, we were able to reach out and find some people interested in giving MAC a try. We still have areas where we can use some help, such as a newsletter editor, someone to help format our quarterly calendar, someone with some marketing experience to help us figure out how to promote our services, a person to work with next years student reps, etc. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you think you have something to offer.
Kristina, Staci and I had a phone interview as part of our grant review process with 20 the CCT. The interview went very well; our reviewer commented several times that we are accomplishing a lot for such a small organization. Hurray for MAC!
We’re talking about collaborating with the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center by co-hosting a Chamber of Commerce After Hours event, or possibly coordinating with one or more of our artist members to bring some art work in for display at the center during the Holiday time this year. Be on the look out for more information on that.
The date for Main ARTery, our annual juried art show and sale, held on the courthouse plaza in downtown Meriden in conjunction with the wine tasting put on by Valencia Liquors and the Drust Family Shoprite is set for Thursday October 1st. This is a fun evening for both artists and attendees, where we get to sample wine and food and enjoy the art. Ticket sales for this event support the local non-profit agencies. If you are planning to attend please contact us for tickets, info@meridenartscouncil.org.
MAC will be meeting Tuesday July 7th at 6:30 at Wallingford Center, Inc, 261 Center Street in Wallingford. All are welcome to attend.
We meet the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM. Anyone interested in hosting one of our board meetings, or would like to suggest a location to us, please call us at 203-213-7366 or e-mail info@meridenartscouncil.org.
Sincerely,
Lynn C Fisher
MAC President
